Bowties apparently aren’t cool enough for Peter Capaldi.
On Chirstmas Day, Whovians all around the world witnessed Matt Smith surrender his Sonic Screwdriver and TARDIS to his successor, the twelfth man to hold the title “The Doctor.” We are now getting our first look at the iconic Time Lord’s unique style, one that looks to be a return to roots in a fashion that almost echoes the look of some of Capaldi’s predecessors. Capaldi, himself, described his garb to the BBC:
“He’s woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100% Rebel Time Lord.”
The Doctor’s new wardrobe seems to a hint that Capaldi’s time in the TARDIS will be one that shifts its focus back to the Doctor fighting injustice in the universe throughout history, this time with Clara by his side. While donning a bit of a striking outfit, rumors are that the new season of Who will be a return to seriousness. A new Doctor usually spurns higher than average interest in the already wildly popular science fiction series. Matt Smith, known as the Doctor who “finally cracked America” left large shoes for his successor to fill. Capaldi, though, appears ready to take on the role in a unique way.
Filming for Peter Capaldi’s highly-anticipated Doctor Who (proper) debut began earlier this month.
